Installation Guide for ShareSpeak
Follow these step-by-step instructions to install ShareSpeak AI teleprompter on your Mac or Windows computer.
macOS Installation
Download the .dmg file
Choose the appropriate version for your Mac:
- Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) - Download the ARM64 version
- Intel (2019 and earlier) - Download the x64 version
Not sure which Mac you have? Click the Apple menu → About This Mac to check your processor.
Open the installer
Locate the downloaded ShareSpeak-0.2.0.dmg file in your Downloads folder and double-click it to mount the disk image.
Drag to Applications folder
A window will open showing the ShareSpeak app icon and your Applications folder. Drag the ShareSpeak icon to the Applications folder to install it.
Launch ShareSpeak
Open your Applications folder and double-click ShareSpeak to launch it.
Security Warning
If you see a warning that ShareSpeak "cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer":
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the ShareSpeak app
- Select "Open" from the menu
- Click "Open" in the dialog that appears
Grant permissions
ShareSpeak will request permission to access:
- Accessibility - Required for the teleprompter to overlay your screen
- Screen Recording - Required to detect which app is active
Click "Allow" or "Open System Preferences" to grant these permissions.
Windows Installation
Download the .exe installer
Download the ShareSpeak installer for Windows from the download page. The file will be named ShareSpeak-0.2.0-setup.exe
Beta Version
The Windows version is currently in beta. Some features may be unstable or incomplete.
Run the installer
Locate the downloaded file in your Downloads folder and double-click it to start the installation.
If Windows Defender SmartScreen appears, click "More info" and then "Run anyway" to proceed with the installation.
Follow the setup wizard
The ShareSpeak Setup Wizard will guide you through the installation:
- Accept the license agreement
- Choose the installation directory (default is recommended)
- Select whether to create a desktop shortcut
- Click "Install" to begin the installation
Launch ShareSpeak
Once installation is complete, launch ShareSpeak from:
- The Start Menu → ShareSpeak
- The desktop shortcut (if you created one)
Troubleshooting
ShareSpeak won't open on Mac
Try right-clicking the app and selecting "Open" instead of double-clicking. This bypasses Gatekeeper security for the first launch.
Windows SmartScreen blocks installation
Click "More info" in the SmartScreen dialog, then click "Run anyway". ShareSpeak is safe - SmartScreen flags new applications that haven't been widely downloaded yet.
Permissions not working on Mac
Go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy tab, and manually grant Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions to ShareSpeak.
